Al-Masaalik Wa Al-Mamaalik by Ibn Khordadbeh was registered on Iran Memory of the World list in 2015.
Ibn Khordadbeh
Ibn Khordadbeh was a Persian Geographer in 9th century. His father was a Zoroastrian who converted into Islam in Abbasid Era. His father was the ruler of Tabarestan, modern Mazandaran, nut he himself was a director of Posts and Intelligence. Working as a postmaster general, he got to know the roads and Caravanserai like a back of his hands.
Al-Masaalik Wa Al-Mamaalik means “The Book of Roads and Kingdoms” which is about people of different culture and land such as Tang China, Brahmaputra in Bangladesh, Unified Silla in Korea, peninsular Malaysia and Java.
Several valuable manuscripts are also available from this edition, but two Persian and Arabic manuscripts kept at the National Museum of Iran and the German Goethe Museum are jointly listed in Iran UNESCO Memory of the World. You can visit this book on Tehran Tour with Fotros Travel Agency.
