Moon two-story Qanat was built 800 years ago and is one of the fascinating examples of Iranian ancestors engineering science based on climate conditions. Qanat of the Moon is roughly 4 km length and its mother well depth is 31 meters. This well has 30 bars and the water level is 60L in second.

Qanat of the Moon

The first bars of Qanat of the Moon were dug in the area of Mohal located in the south of Ardestan and extended to the northwest. The mother well, called “Twin well”, is located next to Imam Zadeh Ismail and consists of two parallel channels that overlap each other and share vertical wells. It is named “twin well” because in this area two well bars are located next to each other. One of them that is 27m length belongs to the upper well and the other one which is 30m belongs to the low well.

The upper channel of Qanat of the Moon is sun-drenched about 200m away from the lower one and then two channels join to each other in an area called “seyyedhaye Ardestan”. The upper channel water tastes better, sweeter, more delicious and cooler in summer. The lower Qanat water of Qanat of the Moon has less quality than the upper Qanat water and is warmer and heavier in summer.
